H.E, Governor, Fahim Yasin Twaha has today launched a household sanitation project for Mokowe and Hindi in Lamu West Sub-county. The project is funded by Water Fund and implemented by Lamu County Government and Lamu Water and Sewerage Company Ltd. The project cost is 17.2M and it has components namely: –

  • 200 Toilets for poor households in Mokowe and Hindi
  • Decentralised Treatment facility (DTF).

This facility will be used to treat the sludge that will be collected from the toilets septic tanks. The facility have a capacity of 50m3 per day.

When launching the project H.E, Governor, Fahim Twaha thanked the C.E.O water fund, the Donors and Ministry of Water and Sanitation. He encouraged all the residents of Mokowe, Hindi and Barigoni to apply for the facility.

The C.E.C Sanitation and Environment Hon. Godana Dae committed to the Governor that the project will be implemented on time as per the contract agreement.

The launch was also attended by Mr Wainaina P.K. Managing Director LAWASCO, Madam Fresiah of Water Fund, Mr Sifa Manger ABC Bank Lamu.

Seven (7) toilets have so far been completed and 100 more registered. The Managing Director encouraged the Social Animators to work more hard to deliver the project on time.
